A few months ago, I did something a little unconventional. I posted a model call on TikTok looking for a mixed race couple in the Orange County and Los Angeles area to star in a styled elopement shoot. I didn't know what to expect. For the location, I chose Pirate's Cove Beach in Corona del Mar, Newport Beach, CA — a spot I'd been wanting to shoot at for a while. It's got this rare quality where the cliffs and the shoreline give you two completely different moods within a two-minute walk of each other, which made it perfect for the story I wanted to tell.
It's also just a genuinely special place to shoot. The cove is small and tucked-in, framed by dramatic rock formations, which makes it feel intimate rather than like you're sharing a wide-open stretch of sand with everyone else at the beach. Compared to a lot of the bigger, more touristy spots along the Orange County coastline, Pirate's Cove feels private and a little otherworldly, almost like its own separate world ... which matters a lot for an elopement, styled or real, since the whole point is that the moment belongs to just the two of you.

Up on the bluffs, everything shifts into something more elevated. The wind picks up, the horizon stretches out behind you, and the whole scene starts to feel like an editorial wedding photography spread rather than a typical portrait session.
